I began with the legs on this project. As you can see, the curly figure is very dense in this maple. I was careful to book match the legs so that it looks like a virtual mirrored image. This was my first experience working with African Ebony and let me tell you, it's some pretty hard stuff. Ebony dust in the air has an instant choking effect, so be careful to wear a respirator when working with Ebony, especially when sanding. Doing tapered curves on the legs gave them a nice look. Once I created a leg template from 1/4" hardboard, I rough cut the tapers on the band saw and then cleaned them up on the router table with a spiral bit. Curly stock is very susceptible to tear out so watch out for kicks on the router table.
